Of course it is subjective, there are no good or bad photos absolutely but only shots that may like or not, this is an important point to keep in mind. Reading forums and magazines I see more and more often than most people spend more time in technicalities to take pictures, get out, photographing a square and then spend the evening to discuss on a forum on the quality of light, etc ... without the detail invest time to understand if that photo at the end sends something. I am opposed to the sterile notions, may be part of the baggage of a photographer as may be totally absent but are certainly not the ones making the difference between a picture that moves and one that does not transmit anything.
A proof of this? Pictures of war, no one loses time to follow rules, shots, try to seize the moment and maybe the photos are moved, certainly not inspired by the rules or who teach courses in the magazines but they are real photos that fill the eyes that tell something. So this is in my opinion the ultimate goal of photography, narration, description, send a message that can be represented by the beauty of a butterfly in a macro, the smile of a child before the parent or the increasingly rampant misery in our streets.
